- Project / Program Description
RE-volv empowers individuals to support clean energy and combat climate change via crowdfunding
campaigns that enable nonprofit community-serving organizations to go solar, reduce their carbon
footprints, and save on their electricity bills. We train college students and community organizers to lead these campaigns and to spread the word that solar power is accessible to everyone. RE-volv is the first and only nonprofit in the U.S. to finance solar energy projects using a revolving fund raised by crowdfunded donations. The revolving fund, called the Solar Seed Fund, uses savings from one project to pay for the next, setting in motion a first of its kind pay-it-forward model for solar energy.
- Project Updates
RE-volv is thrilled to have completed its Solar in Your Community Challenge goals! During the challenge, RE-volv signed solar leases for 14 nonprofit organizations in CA, WI, PA, ME, OH, and SC accounting for 204kW of capacity. During the challenge, RE-volv ran successful crowdfunding campaigns for 11 of the 14 projects, and installed 10. RE-volv installed a total of 110kW of capacity during the challenge. Our crowdfunding campaigns were very successful, in part thanks to a matching grant from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. RE-volv is honored to have recently won a Green Power Leadership Award for Green Power Education in recognition of our Solar Ambassador Program, training college students to be the next generation of clean energy leaders.
