- Project / Program Description
The Thrifty Community Solar Barn Raising team’s innovative business model uses trained volunteer installation, creative third-party financing, and crowdfunding to provide affordable solar to the under-served nonprofit market that indirectly empowers Low to Moderate Income (LMI) households. Gift & Thrift’s 107 kW solar array under development in Harrisonburg, VA will serve as a model for other Mennonite Central Committee facilities which will partner with Secure Futures and SolarWorld Americas to go solar with triple bottom line benefits. With SunShot resources used to kick-start project development, we plan to scale up to 1 MW across MCC facilities throughout the U.S. in 2017-18.
